Low Country Boil BGE Style

I decided to try what we call a "low country boil" in my Dutch Oven instead of the big pot we typically use. I couldn't cook as much but didn't need to this time and it turned out fantastic. :P I think a cast iron pot should be added to the "must have" accessory list.

    Can you share the details of this cook--I'm from the north and don't do many (well any) boils.

    This looks good and I would like to try it.

    Ingredients: (add or subtract amounts depending on pot size and preference

    4-5 small ears of corn
    4-5 taters quarterd up
    10-15 small carrots
    1.5-2 beef sausage sliced up
    1 onion quarted up
    1 lb of shrimp
    1 bag of crab boil or old bay season to taste
    salt
    Pepper

    Instructions:
    - Bring water to a boil and add crab boil bag. (add bag as soon as you put the pot on the egg if you prefer a spicer tasted)
    - Add all ingredients and cook for approx 20 minutes or until taters and carrots are soft.
    - Add some old bay seasoning, salt, and pepper to water and ingredients
    - Add shrimp and cook until done.
    - Pull pot and dip out ingredients to serve

    Hope this helps. It is a wonderful dish.
  • I usually do my boils on a turkey fryer. Do you think that doing them on the egg gets you more flavor? Did you add wood chunks?
  • I typically do mine on the fryer as well. I got about the same amount of flavor but I did not add any wood chunks. Me and my wife discussed yesterday and I think next time I will add some chunks to see if it would add some additional flavor. I liked it because it was very quick to cook.
