Took a half day vacation today. Went to my Egg dealer for more lump and picked up some more smoking wood...alder, sassafrass and pear. Also picked up Raichlen's book BBQ USA...Between the lump, smoking wood and word of the gospel, I am now armed and dangerous![p]I went shopping for baby back pork ribs...my 9 and 12-year-olds junped on the notion of ribs on the egg when I made the suggestion last night...rats...I'm really in the mood for some good pull. Long story, short...found the ribs at one store only...the others had pretty ratty-looking ones, if any at all...forget about finding any on sale. QUESTION: Is the market price for pork out of sight right now, or what? Availability doesn't seem to be overly abundant right now, and it sure seems to have been a long time since I've seen any major sales.[p]One more vacation activity...I did buy the ribs to make on Sunday. But I also bought some Italian sausage for the Cub game tonight. I smoked them at a dome temp of 250 - 275 for an hour...absolutely to die for! Whoops! I forgot to mention the secret ingredient part...they were smoked over grape vine chunks...Ooh la wee, you gotta try this!
