How to get higher temps for cooking steaks.
I had always had a hard time getting the temp up for cooking steaks..until recently. With the slide door open and the slide/daisy top slid all the way open I could only achieve about 600 degrees. Last night I pondered this will cooking a steak and it hit me...DOH!. I comepletely removed the metal top and the temp shot up 100 degrees in less than a minute or two. There is no telling how high it will get if you start out that way.[p]This, I'm sure is old news to most of you, but I didn't know.

Brad,
absolutely. . the way to high temps is no cap at all. . .if you really want to see temps sore, put a small fan to the lower vent and force air in. . .you will watch the needle spin. . .[p]go see the trex steak method if you haven't already for the absolute best way to cook a steak. . .you can find it easily on the naked whiz's web site. ..
