Eggtoberfest 2003
Have had a BGE for 2+ years, love it, but use it mostly for steaks, pork, ribs, etc. Have never been to an Eggtoberfest, but considering it this year. I think to comraderie would be great, but what else it it like (e.g. all about)? I'm local to ATL, so it's an easy trip, just want to get feedback .. .. .. .. [p]John

John Ohman, a lot of it is about seeing people do things that you never thought possible on a grill and being able to ask how they did it. But the best part is meeting all the folks that come and just have a plain old "good time". You'll meet folks that hang out here onthe forum and many that just lurk. You'll meet others who have never even visited the forum (hard to believe I know). You'll meet folks who compete and folks who cook once a month in their back yard. You'll meet professional chefs and folks who could be professional chefs. It's not as big as Memphis in May but it's every bit EGGlanta in EGGtober.

John Ohman,
The comradery is awesome. In fact, it is a little too good, and it is easy to party too late on friday night. People are ready to roll when they arrive, and for a good reason. The folks are friendlier than you can imagine. I have heard talk this year about many folks getting there on THURSDAY and starting the party early. WooDoggies and I might be part of that crowd this year....hehe.[p]Fun and partying aside, the fest on saturday is pretty intense. Dozens of folks are cooking, and usually it is their specialty. With the growing size of the fest, there is no way to try everything. Stuff goes quickly, and lines form as soon as stuff comes off the cooker. Some folks compensate for this, and cook massive amounts. At the last fest I attended, Puj and Mrs. Puj were pulling calzones out all day long!! There is usually no shortage of food...but you gotta have good timing. Best advice is to make agreements with people....like...you tell me when JimW's ribs are ready, and I'll let you know when WooDoggie's drumsticks come off the cooker! [p]Anyway, long story long, if you want to get ideas for expanding your horizons...If you are into socializing and meeting people with similar interests...or if you like to party...or just eat....the Eggtoberfest is the place. For an added bonus, there is a pretty good chance you will get to meet the famous drbbq.[p]Hope to see you there.
