so does anybody use "bear paws" to handle their meat? pulled pork in particular, also turkeys, briskets etc.

OK I am gonna get in trouble for this, but I eat bear paws and pull pork by hand..
I have a set of bear claws but have never used them. -
I use them, but I've only shredded 28 lbs of butt at one time. It made quick work of the shredding and no burned fingers..........whereas, Celtic Wolf has shredded tons and tons with whatever method he uses.

Same answer as Pete. I have a set of the bear paws, and although I have used them a couple times I don't like them.
Invest in a decent pair of heat resistant silicone gloves for handling large pieces of meat and pull the pork by hand. This will let you pull out more of the loose fat and have a more uniform consistency to the pulled meat.
As for gloves, I use Steven Raichlen's silicone BBQ Gloves. They aren't heat resistant enough to handle hot grids, plate setters, or pans, but are plenty insulated for briskets, butts, and other food items. I like them because they are gloves rather than mitts - the fingers come in handy from time to time. -
I, like Fidel, use gloves and pull by hand. It allows me to remove whatever grizzle and fat that is left after the cook.. Nothing worse than munchin' a great pulled pork sandwich and biting into a hunk of grizzle.

Wait a minute. I thought the doughnut/pastry things were called "Bear Claws" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_claw_(pastry) and the pork pulling things were bear claws too, but I see these "bear paws" and now I'm confused.

So just to clarify you're not into some freakish Eastern medicine thing where you think eating poor Winnie the Pooh's hands will bring you virility? -
No that is stike...

Man, don't never ever use these things for pulling pork!! You'll end end with a stringy shredded mess of pig! Pull it by hand always!!

I have a set and use them when I reheat PP in food saver bags, they work great. I don't use them when I initially pull the pork because I like to remove any objectionable objects, sineu, veins, ect. Fluffing up PP that has been vacuumed and reheated they work great. -RP

They are terrific for pulling hot pork butt! These guys must have huge hands if they do all the pulling by hand. I can pull to large chunks or shreds, and getting rid of the fat, gristle, whatever is easy with the pointy sharp ends.
Highly recommended.

Yep, although not much of a challenge for a juicy, tender, scrumptious BGE smoked Boston Butt!
