lid misalignment

Hello all,
I've had my egg for a while and love it. The only thing that bugs me is that its got a pretty bad cross bite. (top mis aligns with bottom by 1/4" or more).

Should i expect the "egg guys" to send me a new set of "rings" or am i going to be told to just live with it? The bad part is it is burning the gasket on the top that is exposed.

What do ya think?

    Most misalignment can be corrected.

    What size egg, is the cross bite front to back, side to side or both. A picture would make things a lot easier for us to see what the problem is.

    I love my eggs also. I think the misalignment can be fixed with some adjustment. If I was at your egg I could find a remedy lickity split.... but I'm not so I'll suggest you take a look at;
    Check that your hinge bolts are snug. Do not overtighten.

    Check to see that your bands are positioned horizontal and parallel onto the lip of the dome and base. Loosen and re-tighten band bolts to adjust bands. Make sure dome is down tight and centered over base when re-tightening bands.

    If you still have a misalignment your top band may need adjustment depending on which way the dome sits. I have added lock washers to the dome band at the left side of the hinge to kick the dome to the right of my older egg eliminating a 3/16" left side overhang misalignment. You can see the lock washers I installed between the band and hinge.

    I hope this helps. Your dealer may have suggestions also and there is always help from BGE headquarters. Wish I could drop over and together we could fix this little misalignment over a beer or two.

  • Clay,
    thanks for the great pics. i've had my dome on/off/turned/twisted/you name it and it always tightened with a "side bite". After looking at it again, i think the lockwasher trick is going to be just the ticket. i'll give it a whirl and let you know.

    Thanks again,
