Should I buy this egg?

Have a large, want a small as a companion. Used but ok condition, rusty band, old style hinge, no DFMT, ceramic top, all innards intact.....not worried about warrantee etc. Price is $225.

How about you dealers in the NY tri-state region....got a small demo for sale?

by the time you retrofit with a spring band, buy a DFMT and probably also need a new stainless steel draft vent and screen those will run you easily $100. I'd either try to get the guy to come down another $50 or just go buy a new small for what you'll have invested!

I'm not sure if the rusty band and old style hinge would bother me but no DFMT would. I would get a quote on the replacement parts (band, hinge, DFMT) and use it as a negotiating tool to get the price down. Then I would consider cleaning up the band (buff, prime and topcoat) and living with the hinge.

Maybe you end up somewhere in the middle - my dos centavos.

I paid $250 for a used small in excellant condition (minus the gasket) that also came with the nest, dfmt and ceramic cap. I'd keep looking if I were you.
Oh it also had a new firebox.
