I'm having trouble getting my Small Edd to heat over 300 degrees. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, did you fill up the firebox with lump? Don't worry about wasting lump because you can shut down after cooking and save the unburned lump for the next cook.

I really don't think it makes much difference what size egg you have.

Look for small lump that can clog the works up.

Make sure that all your ash is emptied out. I do have to do this more often on my small.

Make sure your lump was stored in a dry spot, it sure can soak up a lot of moisture and this will keep a good temp down.

I've had more problems with small lump gunking up the works than anything else.

seeing it's your first post, I assumed it's a spanking new/clean egg and no leftover tiny pieces of lump that cause the typical 'not hot enough' problem.

One suggestion, as said above : make sure your lump is as dry as you can manage, i.e., don't leave it outside if you can avoid it. Open the draft door wide open and start your lump in at least 3 places if using a torch or starter cubes. If using an electric starter, leave in at least 8 minutes. After the lump is started, leave the dome wide open until most of the charcoal is glowing red and, obviously, very hot. Close the dome and leave the metal top off. This should get your dome temp. up to where you want it.......

Well, I just had my small up to 400 in 25 mins to do corn. Shut down the vents to about 1/2" and kept it there for 1.5 hours. Works for me.
