Outdoor Deep Freeze

Need to add a deep freeze to my appliance collection... The only place I have room for it is the back porch.

Anyone know if the North Texas heat or cold will kill it out there?

I know of some people who keep spare refrigerators in their Florida garages. The units may work a little harder but they seem to survive OK in the heat. As far as the other end of the spectrum with a very cold environment, my guess is it would be OK. Perhaps a call to an appliance dealer or better yet, a repair service would be your best bet. You'll be fine as long as you remember to turn it away from the max freeze setting in the heat of summer. I know this sounds contrary to what you should do. Makes sense to make it colder when it is hotter outside.

However, this will actually make the unit freeze up and stop cooling.

I keep a spare fridge and a chest freezer in my garage where it stays over 100* most of the summer with no issues. Both are several years old.

What I did was go to Home Depot/Lowes and but the thick insulation board/foam with a 10+ rating. I then glued/2 sided taped it to the outside of the fridge. It's amazing how much that cuts down on the cooling loss. It works great.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm looking at a 5 to 8 cubic footer from HD or Lowes.

You won't have any problem. Look at how many Coke machines there are sitting outside of gas stations!!!

One needs to be careful about adding insulation on the out side of a freezer, mine has no condenser coils on the back and they are built into the left and right side just under the skin and putting insulation on mine would restrict air flow to the condencer coil.
    Just my two cents.
