What temperature differences can you expect on a raised grid btween the top and bottom grid? I know that the top grid positions food higher up in the dome. Is there any basic rule on this?

    Howdy Hammer,
No basic rule, as it all depends on your setup. Whether there is water in the drip pan. How much mass of meat. Whether your cooker is preheated. Shape and size of drip pan. [p]It is not uncommon for me to see a 50 degree plus difference....especially at the beginning of the cook. The further you get into the cook, the hotter the meat is, and the hotter your cooker is, the more the temps will even out. Still, even then don't be suprised to see a 15 degree difference.[p]Been playing with different setups and hope to find the ultimate setup someday! Round dry drip pans seem to work best. I really like to monitor both levels when possible.[p]Cheers! Go skins!

    Nature Boy,
Thanks Chris! This was the first time I had experimented with the raised grid, and I was concerned with the temps, since there was such a major difference at the beginning, so I dismantled the top grid, and cooked only on the bottom.
When, you settle on the ideal set-up, please advise!
