Hello gang, I'm calling on you guys for a little bit of advice, I'm in need of appetizer ideas done on the egg. I'll be cooking at a home and garden show in mid Oct. to help out a BGE dist. to sell his BGE's. I won't have time to get involved in low and slow cooking, the idea is for them to see the egg in action and taste something like ABT's, grilled sausage, stuffed mushrooms, london broil, etc.
Any ideas that are not time consuming would really be appreciated.
I'd love to see our Green Goddess Chicken have to work overtime on producing her Big Green Eggs.
thanks Wil

    Chef Wil,
Bacon wrapped Pickled Watermelon Rinds. These always go in a big hurry.[p]~nikki

  • Chef Wil,
Chicken livers wrapped in bacon marinade in soy based mixture of choice.
Pineapple chucks on skewers dusted with chili powder or sugar and cinnamon[p]

  • Chef Wil,
How about what we all use daily without much involved? Simplicity. Easy wings ( or even a load of regular sized drumsticks ); hamburgers ( seasoned differently for variety, can be made & froze in advance ) and best of all - pizzas. That would give many an option to see the plate setter in action. Heck, you could even do a variety of stuff on the stone - from eggrolls to stuffed cheese sticks. Pizza would probably be my quick choice. Good luck. I'm sure you won't go wrong.

    Chef Wil,
ABTs seem to be the best bet... they'll have some pulled pork in em that you can tell the folks was Egged too.[p]And at the risk of looking like a preacher, I'd try the eggplant recipe below.[p]Since everyone knows eggplant, and the recipe is so simple, i think the effect of natural lump and the moisture retention would play well

Chef Wil,[p]I did ABT's for the first time on Sunday. I am by no means a pepper head, but I thought that those things were amazing.[p]I would make them, great taste, you get many on the grill at once, and they will be something that is interesting and different to most folks.[p]Wings and those open faced tostada things MickeyT made are also good options.[p]Keep em Smokin,
    Jethro

  • Jethro,
anyone ever made those abt's with provolone cheese?

wil,[p]I did mine with onion & chive whipped cream cheese.[p]I think it would be interesting to try it with different cheeses. I was thinking about one of those shredded Mexican mixes in the deli section.[p]I think you need to do a pre-demo ABT sample pack for yourself first![p]Regards,
    Jeff

Chef Wil,[p]I just did a demo day this past Saturday at a local patio and fireplace shop here in my neck of the woods. My menu was:[p]1) Wings three different ways (Zesty Orange, Okinawan, and Kenny G's WS Wings with a Twist)
    2) Double Cherry Smoked Sausage with Sierra Nevada Mustards (Porter, Stout and Pale Ale)
    3) Hot Crab and Artichoke Dip with Crusty Sourdough French Bread
    4) Stuffed Portabellas[p]Everything was snapped up as soon as it was removed from the grill! I cooked from about 9:30 - 3:00 and did about 12 lbs of wings, a dozen or so of portabellas, 5 lbs of sausage, and an 8" pie pan of dip with 2 loaves of bread...[p]I had a lot of fun doing it...hope you do too! Let me know if you have any interest in the recipes and I'll get them to you (they're at home, I'm at work).[p]QBabe

Wil,[p]I tried to email them several times and my email program kept encountering errors. I've added them to my webpage to make it easier....
