High Temp Troubles

Just picked up my egg yesterday - complete newby (giving up the gas) with only about 6 hours of "experimentation" in... Tonight I tried reaching 650 to seer burgers and was only able to hit 640ish, despite having the vents wide open. The burgers came out great, but I thought I'd see the temp continue to climb with the vents open...

Thoughts??

lose the daisy wheel. nothing on top.

fill the fire box, not just a small pile.

and get ready to put on a new gasket. chances are good a new gasket at 750 will fall off. might want to get a bunch of sub-600 cooks under your belt first

good point on gasket! I replaced mine a months ago w/ nomex. so far so good

Sounds like you got this hot for first time out. I would not worry about a few extra degrees. Welcome to our BGE group. adding wood chucks will also fire up the heat

What do you need to cook at temps higher than 640*?

Do what stike says, but really, no reason to go any higher.
