After almost giving myself & my neighbor a hernia getting my NEW XL BGE off the truck I was eggstatic to assemble it. Unfortunately, halfway through assembling the nest, it started to rain. :( Rain stopped, went outside to assemble the grill only to have lightning arc across the sky as more rain decided to pour down. Hanging my head in shame after not being able to cook on the BGE the first night.

i could not cook on mine the first night either.

i assembled the whole thing and lit a fire threw the grate in and the ceramic that coated the grate was falling off

drove 2 hours back to the mothership and got a new one :woohoo:

after you have the hang of your FIRST egg the rain will not bother you

    Hey JumperLee,

Welcome to the forum. Careful what you say about Mother Nature, she can deal out some harsh justice should you anger her.

It could be worse, honest it could, you could do what I did. It hurts to say it but . . . I dropped it! SMASHED into a cazillion tinny pieces before I ever got to use it. That's all I'm going to say . . . it just hurts to much! :( :( :(

Yup, It's a sad tale but true. We were lifting it out of the car (dealer had assembled it) and the base slid out of the lower band and we were left just holding the dome and the mates. The base, fire ring, ceramic top and I can't remember what else were on the pavement in pieces. We were in shock! I hate to even think about it. :(

Did you try to pick it by holdong just the band/ hinge/ mates??????? If so..it's perfecly understandable that it would slip out of the band...thats a lot of weight pulling down...Still sucks though..

I'm not exactly sure how we had hold of it. It seemed as though we had enough hands to have had it covered but apparently not. The dealer had assembled it but didn't bother to tell us that he hadn't tightened up any of the screws or bolts. It is a medium which he doesn't carry any accessories for so I haven't been back in the six months I've had it. I don't think he is an Egghead but just sells them. I get the impression he is about as sharp as a sack of wet mice. If you have a good dealer your lucky. The local Ace Hardware was carrying BGE's but could get absolutely no help from the BGE distributor so they sent them all back. We had a couple other dealers but they have folded because of the economy. I think the next closest one is about 100 miles round trip.

THAT is the kind of crap that I'm talking about. Why doesn't the mothership crack down on the distributors and the dealers like Porsche and BMW and Mini does on their dealerships. Seriously, anyone that's owned one of those cars can tell you what happens when you call THEIR mothership. I drive a Mini now. I had a problem with the top. We couldn't get a resolution. I called HQ. Within about a half hour they were arranging a flat bed pickup of my car to take it to the dealer, 175 miles away, a rental, and a "we're very sorry you're having this problem, it will be fixed to your satisfaction".

Now I'm not saying BGE should bend over and take it, but they've got some dealers that don't give a rat's rear end and they should be shown the door.

All is well, I did the anti-rain dance and now have my beautiful Egg slowly cooking some stuffed jalepenos to be followed up by steaks. Justice hath returned to my little slice of the planet. Thanks for the support and funny stories. My stomach clenched reading about dropping the egg...it was my worst nightmare getting mine off the back of the truck. Hopefully will be posting some great recipes in a while!
