OT: Homemade buns

Rolling Egg
Posts: 1,995
My wife took to baking about 4 years ago and has gotten extremely good at it. Yesterday she went to the kitchen with the idea of homemade hamburger buns. These buns turned out amazing and what better timing than the 4th of July. She will be making quite a bit more just before the 4th. The only thing she said she's going to change is less sugar. They were a tiny bit sweeter than store bought buns. I know, I know, they could have been baked on the egg and that's a work in progress. She's really attached to her oven and thinks the egg will throw smoke in them. I told her a good clean burn and about an hour start before baking and I think they will have no smoke. We'll see. Had to post pics to show off her skills. Enjoy.

Great looking buns.

I have tried to make buns, they looked nothing like those  GREAT JOB!

Those look great! This is something I've been wanting to try. Does she free form them or use a pan of some sort? King Aurthur flour sells a pan like a cup cake pan that has 6 large cups specifically for baking buns but of course it is sold out now so I'm hoping I don't actually need it.

Heres the link Pat. Good luck http://thesistersdish.blogspot.com/2009/04/homemade-hamburger-buns.html

She says she does free form them. When she gets the dough made she tears it into pieces and rolls the pieces into balls. Then rolls each individual ball into the size bun she wants. See the link above. I just replied to Poolman with it.
