Well he used it about 5 times then the gasket came off on a cook about 2 hours in at a demo we were doing for a charity..... no huge deal

I put on a new gasket with 3m adhesive also. I have done several gaskets including my own and have had no further problems.

Last night we were cooking again for an event for a fund raiser 2 larges and the mini. Well about 1.5 hours into cookin dogs on his mini the gasket let loose again! this time the clear tape was still on the ceramic. I figgured being held on by the 3M. after about 10 more minutes i just peeled off the tape from the egg also.

Ideas? He is a lil annoyed with this problem. I dont blame him at all either.

The gasket needs to be removed, surfaces cleaned and a new gasket installed. I would get the Nomex and use 3M Super 77 adhesive.

Call the dealer and if no resolve then call BGE service.

Explain the problem and most likely you will get a new gasket kit.

The tape peeling off is a known issue, just look at the thread a few posts below.

thanks Granp... well I am the Dealer is the only issue with that lol. I was there when the 1st onw let loose. I scraped any glue left (wich was none)took a small wire brush to it cleaned iwth acetone and let that dry. sprayed the 3M into a can and used a flux brush to put it on. Let it stand a few minutes. Got the new gasket and peeled the tape and stuck it on. Let it sit for 24 hours with the lid down.

Its odd cause I have done several of the DEFECTIVE glue ones from BGE in the store before even delivering them to the customer. (the ones that came with 2 gaskets every one peels right off with no efforts.) None of them including mine from 7 months ago have had issue but all are LARGES.

I read on 4 hour cooks on minis and obviously they can handle the heat ok. It was just odd this time that the flet pulled away from the adhesive tape that was stuck to the egg yet.

Ill call BGE and see what they say about it. Hes just not a happy camper and I can understand why for sure. its the only Mini we have sold so i dont have many other personal exp with them.

Yes, remove the clear backing and now just use 3M 77 adhesive and put back on. Works fine.

You are in a much better position to get information and help form John than we are.

The weak point is the adhesive. Putting good adhesive on the weak adhesive tape, then the felt or Nomex doesn't seem like it would accomplish anything as far as keeping the gasket material stuck to the ceramics.

If the adhesive strip peels away from both the egg and gasket material easily, it sounds like Phil's solution below would work just fine.

Appreciate that much, Maybe ill take a nomex off the shelf and cut it down a lil to fit. Sometimes its better to ask the end users I have found. You get some REAL TIME answers and opnions.

    appreciate the help

If you use a nomex (with out adhesive) put it in the dryer so it will pre-shrink.

There is going to be a width issue unless you have some narrow Nomex.

Let us know how it turns out.

I sure will, yup on the dryer, learned that TRICK here and educated my sales rep lol on that one too.

I shot an email off to my contact at EGG to see what they say also. and I will report back as to what we figgure out for sure.

I sold 10 eggs last weekend at our cook out and got in some stock from another one of our stores to fill me in till my next truck, whenever I open a box to put it together and see that 2nd gasket in the box  ... I just pop the one on the egg off and put on a new one. Im starting to hate gaskets lol.

    thanks again.

Congratulations, glad to hear of the sales. It is a bit unusual this problem is still nagging.

What you did was replace a bad gasket with another bad gasket. You should be near the end of this thing re your stock. Yes, I know what you mean when you see a spare gasket in with the new egg. You're probably better off just going ahead and replacing it. I had one of these fail on the first cook at the dealership. It was easy to remove and replace as I'm sure you found out. I wouldn't suggest gluing the felt directly to the ceramic as was suggested. If you ever have to remove it you're going to have a problem getting it off.....

The gasket was a new stock I ordered from our distributor so it was new to us anyways. The bad gasket eggs were left over from one of our other stores from a winter shipment..... I have new stock commin from BGE after the 4th I just needed some to get me by till then.

Anyone ever tried to remove a nomex yet???
