This past weekend at the Kentucky State BBQ Championship I used 3 large and one medium BGEs and nothing else. The results were 2nd place chicken, first place brisket and overall Grand Champion. It was a blast. Thanks to the local BGE folks for all the help.[p]Also congratulation to Kim W. as they also won a GC on this day of firsts using those tiled cookers.

drbbq,
Congratulations!!
Most impressive!
Just curious...did any of the other cooking teams look down on your setups since most of them probably had big commercial gas/wood fired units?
-
drbbq,
Way to go!! Hope the "other cookers" don't too feel neglected now. You just might need to find a new home for them...LOL.[p]~nikki

drbbq,
Congratulations for a well deserved win. I was there, ate some of your ribs and pulled pork, and, best of all, I purchased my first BGE. I bought a large one from Sondra and Jeff and can't wait to get it put together and fired up. I'll look forward to seeing you here to win it all next year.

drbbq,[p]Way to go! That truly is exciting to hear. I hope Eggtoverfest fits into you schedule. I for one would love to see and taste your creations![p]Smokey

drbbq,
Yowza Ray. Congrats dude. [p]Who were the lucky ones to get to help, and see you do your thing?[p]KimW and David, who helped the Dizzy Pig team last year, cooked next to us, and took it all, including perfect 180 scores in brisket and pork! You shudda seen them dancing.[p]We felt like we improved across the board, and were happy with our turn ins, but did not do as well overall with the judges as we did in our first two contests. 6th chicken. 9th ribs. 17th overall. 43 teams. We had a bunch of fun too. WooDoggies spearheaded the sausage category, and took home a 9th place ribbon for the Dizzy Pig team.[p]How many grands is that this year, Ray?

drbbq, wow! What an honor. The master and his student both winning on the same day! Congratulations to both KimW and drbbq.

Congratulations Ray!

Nature Boy, sounds like it was a lot of fun and that you did pretty good. 17th out of 43 is not bad. In fact I know at least 26 teams that think that would have been pretty good.
-
Chris,[p]I may be splitting hairs....... but we won a 6th place ribbon in the sausage category. :~)[p]Glad you are home safe and sound..... it was a great time in beautiful Amish country.[p]John

drbbq,[p]Quite a day for ceramics in the world of bbq...... Congratulations![p]John

WooDoggies,
Doh! Dats splitting 3 hairs, which is a substantial number! My bad.[p]Twas a nice trip home in the passenger seat! I see you made the trip safely home. Twas a good time indeed.[p]chris

Wise One,
thanks Bill. Mike worded it well after we turned in our last category. He said even if we come in 40th, we put out some damn good Q today. I think we mades some major strides forward. [p]It is ironic that the first two contests we had some major problems, but did well. Then when we think everything went smoothly, we don't do as well![p]This seems common in talking to the other teams, and reinforces the idea that you might as well just have a good time![p]See you in Eggtober.

WAYDAGO!![p]BGE! BGE! BGE![p]Congrats on your fine accomplishment. I'm sure BGE sales in KY will enjoy an increase in the near future as well as increased traffic in this forum. [p]BGE needs to make a new marketing video with drbbq in a leading role.

Way to go, Ray!! Congrats and we'll be seeing you out there soon!![p]Jim

drbbq,
Congrats Doctor.
Just think, a year ago you were making fun of the egg. I guess it true that they really do hold in the moisture, give off no metallic taste and produce meat that doesn't dry out with little or no shrinkage. I wish I hadn't sold mine now.
-
drbbq,[p]It's common knowledge that you dont have to prove yourself in the BBQ world, but for some of us being an Egger means getting a digital camera and posting pics. You got the egg...awesome, and now it's time for going one notch up and taking photos! I know many of you at the other forum think this forum is kinda "hokie", but come one now...PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

drbbq,
Congrats Doc, I guess it can be done!

Also glad to see you have left your "big hammer" at home. Sure would like to see you in the Central Iowa cookoff next June.
Congratulations to you, Kim, and all the other ceramic cooks venturing into the contests. Good luck..
