Pizza Party & the egg
Smokey Bob
Posts: 74
With a BGE cooking a pizza in a matter of a few minutes, has anyone ever tried having a pizza party? Have the empty shells prepared in advance and then a collection of sauces and toppings for guests to choose from. The guest would 'load' their personal pizzas and the host would put them in to cook. Sounds like it could make for an interesting time seeing how different people compose their pizzas![p]SB[p]SB

Smokey Bob,
I've tossed around the idea. I was thinking that if you are lazy like me, you could buy a mess of the small DiGiorno cheese pizzas and provide toppings. However, I had the best luck by making them according to the box instructions, which would mean 15-20 minutes per pizza, as I recall. This is way too long between pies for a party, so I'd probably experiment with thawing them and then seeing what temp/time produced the quickest best pie. [p]Plan B would be to buy a bunch of 10" pizza dough balls from the local joint and working from those. I usually do their pizzas in 7 minutes, so you could do 8 pies per hour and if you had 2 eggs going, 16 per hour. [p]I'm thinking you want to do smaller individual pizzas so everyone could do their own, but it might a cute twist to have people grouped into pairs or threesomes. Have them pull names from a hat so people get grouped at random. They could then work together on a large pie. This might be a way to break the ice, get people to meet new people and make larger pies so as to produce the food faster.[p]TNW

Smokey Bob,[p]We have done this a lot, always good fun. I make the dough up a couple of hours before dinner. The toppings are made up while the guests are there (they help and claim it is fun!). We make "personal pan pizzas" with each guest getting involved as much a they want in the process of constructing and cooking the their individual pie.[p]I highly recommend it.[p]Spin

Smokey Bob,
sounds great! Pizza is one of my favorite things on the egg, thanks to Spin.
Have plenty of beer and wine for your guests. Bud @ Yellow Tail works.
Enjoy!

The Naked Whiz,
Really like your idea of random pairings. What a great way to really get to know someone!!![p]SB

Smokey Bob,[p]I've had two so far. I got a half dozen pieces of dough from a friend at a pizza shop. I cut them in half and rolled out small 6-7" pizzas. Everybody put on their own toppings and we cooked two at a time. It's fun, and the taste is incredible...[p]Ryan

Smokey Bob,[p]Pizza parties? Yup, yup been there and have done that at least a half dozen times with crowds numbering between 10 and 20. If interested, email for details since not all of the cookers involoved were of the "green ceramics" variety you would would expect to hear about on this
