When Walmart was closing out their RO coal (last year or year before), I bought a full pickup truck bed at a little over $4 per bag if I remember correctly. Now, I'm down to my last 8 bags and starting to get nervous. :) What's the best retail deal on coal these days. I'm in Northern VA buy the way.

Don't have an answer for your area, however with the slow down in the housing industry, I hear that there is less wood being cut and scraps being made into charcoal. Therefore the price is up around the country, unless you catch a sale.

If you have multiple Walmarts then check with the other stores. Some of the other 'mart' stores have lump.

Check any of the Kroger or Korger owned stores, their store brand is RO.

Some of the Ace Hardware stores have lump. It is just going to take some look'n. Hopefully someone in your area has discovered another source.

Around here the Wal-Mart super stores sell it for $6.37 per 10 pound bag (USA made). A few other places sell Royal Oak, but it is a higher price than Wal-Mart.
