First Import
I believe I was the first person to import the Big Green Egg from Japan in 1959-60 when it was sold as a rice cooker in the PX. I was recently stationed in Hawaii and needed a BBQ and the opportunity existed to bring it back on my airplane. Subsequently, I brought back several for family and friends. Once you got the hang of it [singed arms etc.] it turned out to be fantastic for cooking. The early ones were ont treated as now and had a habit of melting if exposed to rain. I still have and use one.

Jery Myers,
Back around the same time my aunt and uncle went to japan and flew home a clay cooker, about 24" dia. They still have it but never use it. I remember a few hams that were great. Ask if I could have it, but she said no.

Jery Myers,[p]That may be true, but the genius of the BGE company is marketing. Ed Fisher has created a incredibly strong following, through a great product and staff. The idea of ceramic cookers is centuries (3000+ years) old. The service of the company, knowledge of the staff and advanced ceramics all add up to a fantastic set of products that have earned my loyalty. There are several competitors who make cookers based on similar principles and they are probably good cookers, but the BGE company does a great job of differentiating their products. Along with all of the great people here on the forum, the BGE is fantastic addition to my home![p]
