In a couple of weeks my family and I are headed down to Ponte Vedra, FL for a conference. I was wondering what are some fun things to do down in that area that isn't too far from the Sawgrass Marriott. We will have our 9 year old daughter with us so it has to be kid friendly.

Staying at Sawgrass I certainly hope you are a golfer....you can play the stadium course when staying at that Marriott.

The World Golf Hall of Fame is 15 minutes away as well.

Jacksonville Beach is very nice with fairly calm surf.

St Augustine is right down the road and has a great fort...but she will probably like the pool at the Marriott & Jax beach is nice as well....

I am a golfer, and I was going to take my Dad for a round since I will be there for Father's day, but he had to cancel so I canceled my tee time. I can't afford to pay the $375 per person green fee more than once so I will be taking another trip back down when my Dad can go.

The HOF would be interesting for me, but I have a feeling the fam wouldn't like it as much. I guess it will be pool and beach.

Any restaurant suggestions for the area?

You really should consider St. Augustine if you get the chance. It's only 15 miles or so from where you will be and it's great place for kids. I'm not all that kid friendly, so I go when school is in session. It's just a great place with the fort, the old town and all the history. Also things like the Ripley museum and the Lightner museum just add to the fun. On top of that the restaurants in St. Augustine are better than those in Jax for the most part!!!

You might want to try Barbera Jean's Resturant on the intracostal. It is close to the Marriottt, but has local flavor. If you go the HOF, there is an Imax theater there that might be an option for the rest of the family. St Augustine is about 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic, but it is a family fun place. If you go down, A1A Ale works is a good, consistant option and so is the Colombian. If you cross the Bridge of Lions in ST. Aug, try the Conch House, or Osteen's Seafood. Also down in St. Aug is the Aligator Farm which is a fun cuople of hours if you like reptiles. Al's Pizza is close to Sawgrass and if you go down to Jax Beach at Beach Blvd. there is a Joe's Crab Shack and a Sneakers, both on First street close to the ocean. If you want a unique Sub sandwich try Lubi's in Jax Beach and if you keep going north on 3rd street, try Ragtime Tavern in Atlantic Beach

Hope this helps. (no spell checker on this computer  )

Wow! Plenty of options. Thanks! I'll print this out and take it with us. One thing I'm excited about is on Monday we will be leaving the Ponte Vedra area and head down to Cocoa Beach to visit family. We will be passing through Titusville, so thanks to another recommendation on this forum we will be stopping by Dixie Crossroads for some AYCE Shrimp.
  • St Augustine is 20 miles south on A1A, some of the BEST Restaurants in FL, oldest city in the US, Lots to see!
