Hand-me-down egg

Hello all,
I have been given a hand me down large egg that has been in storage for quite some time. Once I got it I found that I am going to need some replacement items right off the bat, basically everything. After finding the firebox and fire ring busted on the inside. I began checking the shell for cracks. After giving the egg some inspection, I found a crack in the bottom portion of the egg, where bottom and lid meet. It looks to be about 6-8 inches. Will this render the egg useless? Is there a way to patch it up?
Thanks in advance. :(

aleeshanee,
If you know the original purchaser, some of the parts may be warranteed.

Yea, the orig owner is my father and it is over 5yrs old. I doubt the warentee is still current. And It is ceramic not clay. I failed to mention that earlier.

It's a lifetime warranty for the original owner.LBGE Katy (Houston) TX

ok.... soooo. do you need a receipt? Would he have had to register it? Would the warrentee cover everything I want to get to replace on the egg or just the lid and base? In the mean time..... should I not use the egg due to the crack?

Are you sure it's clay? It would have to be twenty or more years old I think?

it is ceramic.

Your Dad should have a lifetime warranty. If he remembers the dealer and they are still in business they should be able to look after it. You can just send pictures to Atlanta and see what they say as well. As long as he is only lending it to you
