Hi y'all,
My husband has been doing more gravitational experiments with lid opening and now our mini's ceramic damper cap is in 2 or 3 pieces.
1. How do I make certain it resists his "research" in the future and save our relationship? What keeps the cap on when you open the lid?Should it always be removed before opening the mini? If so, is there flashback to worry about?)
2. Since the mini has gone out of production, are there parts we should be stocking up on which won't be available in the future? How many caps should we buy? Is it too late? Please save our family.
PS I will say that we've had some awesome dinners lately, however.[p]

    KK,
I dont have a mini, but our cap stays on the small and large when we open the lid. If you have troubles with it falling off, I would just make a note to remove it before you open up. I don't think the mini has gone out of production, so you should be fine to get replacement parts for it. You may even want to try and fabricate some type of metal daisy wheel for it. I have seen where people use tuna cans or mason jar lids....maybe one of them will chime in.[p]~nikki

KK, your family is safe!!! The mini is NOT out of production. It is quite alive and well. You can always purchase a new cap from BGE. I always remove my cap before opening my mini. Well, most always. When I don't, it often falls off just like yours. Flashback is more likely when you do not remove the top than when you remove it. However, I have never had a flashback on my mini.[p]BGE is working on a daisy wheel for the mini. I guess there were enough of us fools riveting tuna cans together for them t decide there may be a market. Don't know any dates, but it is coming. In the meantime, you should be able to glue your top back together with some furnace cement. It'll look strange but shoudl function well.

KK,[p]Regarding daisy wheel for the Mini: in the meantime, just buy a Small daisy wheel and install a strip of gasket material inside to decrease the inner diameter, and it should fit snugly on the chimney of your Mini. [p]TRex

KK, Just had visit from number one son and despite college degree he was able to yank and attempt to launch my ceramic top onto the slate beneath. I caught it just in time. I'd take it off and keep an eye on any guests as they are the one's most apt to grab handle and let her fly. Something about the Egg which makes ordinary folks want to open and look inside. Once open (if your Egg has original hinges) the risk is to the hinges upon a forced closing. Good Luck

  • Charbon, and the others,
Thank you for your kind attention and wise warnings. For our next Q I will hire a trained (egg) sitter to keep the baby safe. I'm very glad the Minis still live.
