ray sefchick,[p]That's a new one. I have two eggs and have only replaced the gasket on one (after 3 years of very frequent use). If you replace the gasket with felt (from BGE), make sure you do a good job of cleaning the surface. I used 220 grit sand paper, then denatured alcohol to clean the surface. I also used a small roller (for wallpaper) to secure it.[p]Smokey

No, that's not normal. However, it sounds like what happened to me on my first cook, about 20 minutes after I got it, just like you. I forgot about flashback, and I opened the Egg, got a godamighty flashback which melted the gasket. When I dropped the lid, the now soft gasket sealed shut and I had to rip the lid open which pulled the gasket loose. Did you do something to melt the gasket? Or did you install it yourself and possibly allow too much to overlap inside the egg so that the inside edges melted together? [p]As for replacement, check out my FAQ where I have a link to a webpage that shows how to use a Rutland gasket to replace the BGE gasket. [p]Good luck!
