Tri tip roast question
RRP
Posts: 26,125
I've been wanting to try a tri tip, but can never never find one so I asked more questions and found that it the name used for the bottom of the sirloin. Right so far??? Well today I went to my Kroger butcher here in the midwest and asked for a sirloin tip roast, which he cut for me. The meat label however calls it a "beef round tip roast cap off" and was $4.09/lb. It has a fine marbling to it. He swore up and down that its not a round steak and is a sirloin tip. Did I get the right thing?

RRP,
The Sirloin Tip "IS" from the Round. You have a Sirloin Tip Roast, not a Tri-Tip Roast. The Tri-Tip is a triangular muscle from the bottom of the sirloin (hip muscle/loin).
