Thermometer Out of Whack?

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I notice that my BGE thermometer, even BEFORE cranking it up, never shows anything beneath 170 degrees. That is, even though the Egg is completely "cold", the guage is reading 170 BEFORE we get going. I'm now concerned that it's always 70-90 degrees overstated, in use. Any experience with this? Is it time to re-calibrate?

    Wing Boy,
Best to recalibrate whenever you get a chance. I check mine monthly, or whenever I think of it. I have a piece of plywood I drilled a hole in to protect my hands from the steam while calibrating. I set this on a pot of boiling water and stick the thermometer in, and adjust the nut until it reads 212.[p]Cheers!
