Adhesive for broken firebox?
Hi,
My firebox cracked into several pieces a few years ago, and I got a new one from BGE.
The second firebox has now cracked into two separate pieces, and it appears that a third crack is trying to form.
Rather than go through the money/effort of getting another firebox from BGE, I understand that it is possible to mend the firebox with a high temperature adhesive.
I went down to Home Depot, and they reccommended JB Weld.
** Questions for anyone who has mended their firebox with an adhesive:
1) I want to be careful what I put in the Egg so it doesn't affect the flavor of the food....Is JB Weld ok to use?
2) Any other suggestions for an adhesive that would be available in the DFW area (Home Depot, Lowes, etc)?
Thank you....I appreciate the assistance

JB Weld, the surgical instrument of choice.

I use JB Weld --
A replacement firebox costs nothing -- It is under warranty.
Have your dealer order one. This can take a while -- but have it delivered to your dealer during on of his regular shipments, and you will not have a shipping charge.
Attn Lurkers -- This is a good reason to buy from an authorized dealer. Your firebox and fire ring will crack and break... more than once. This is normal.
Replacements are covered under warranty...

Hi Broc,
BGE replaced the first cracked firebox.
I purchased my Egg at an authorized dealer (BBQ Galore), but the dealer told me to call BGE to replace the cracked firebox. BGE replaced under waranty, but insisted on charging me approximately $60 for shipping cost (I don't remember the exact amt....it was a few years ago).
Over the years, I've seen some "cracked firebox" forum posts that indicated $0.00 out of pocket, while others indicated shipping had to be paid.
I wonder if it depends on going through the dealer vs going through BGE?....or perhaps like so many customer service issues, it depends on which person you happen to get at the time?
I may try going through the dealer again this time just to see how it goes.
In any case, I've really enjoyed my Egg over the years, and wouldn't trade it for anything else
Have a great day!

Wait for regular dealer shipment [from regional distributor] --
No cost...
No probs!
Good Luck!

One small problem with your solution.. BBQ Galore is out of business..
However, there should be another dealer close by. -
JB Weld is just a temporary fix-it will eventually degrade. And don't even waste your time with furnace cement it won't adhere to the ceramic and will bubble and flake off with the slightest amount of heat.
I'm cooking with one of my f/boxes cracked and repaired with JB Weld-I took a die grinder and notched a groove into the crack faultlines on both sides and filled them with the epoxy.
