I have used it. The stuff I used was pretty big hunks (logs) and 'sparky'.
Give it a try, if you like the burn & flavor then use it.

It is ok mixed with other woods like cherry or apple,by itself In my opinion,it is FUNKY!!!JMHO!!!

Hoss, I think GTIPROD is talking mesquite lump not flavor wood.
A lot of BBQ/Smoking books advise not to use mesquite as it is too strong. However, many of the BBQ restaurants around here use mesquite.

GTI...Mesquite charcoal, knock yourself out!! Go for it! I will warn you, that in my opinion, it lends a very strong smoke flavor, which I am not a fan of. But if you like the smoky...go for it! You won't know until you try! You may love it!

GG,no harm meant.I'm from Mississippu,we just allowed apple and cherry to be used here a few years ago.Until then it was HICKORY or MOVE!!! :woohoo:

I like cherry and apple fan. Grape smells odd when cooking but sure puts a nice flavor in the meat. Jack Daniels chips are also very good. Some day I am going to get some Tabasco barrel chips and give them a try.

Charcoal or lump? I can't stand 1 chunk of it. But you might.

I like to use Mesquite to cook steaks or anything else that needs a hot fire for a short time. It adds just enough smoke to flavor the steaks to let folks know it was grilled outdoors. Like Grandpas Grub said, try it and if you like it then use it. Good luck.

The lump imparts a very tiny bit of flavor. I think some eggheads were getting mixed up with smoking woods. I like mesquite lump, wish I could find it hear again.
The brand that I remember was Rapido.SEE YOU IN FLORIDA, March 14th and 15th 2014 http://www.sunshinestateeggfest.com You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP -
Gary,
Let us know how that goes...being here in Texas, a lot of the folks here like mesquite for smoking. Haven't tried any mesquite lump, because it comes in big bags here, and I don't want to keep that on hand if I don't like it.
Thanks! -
It is mesquite lump charcoal
