Regarding ChefRD's hot wings,
I think I just blew it. Being as I have never done an milk/egg wash I believe I misunderstood the recipe.[p]I mixed the egg, corn meal and flour together. I think I was supposed to just use the milk and egg for the wash????? Can some one help, do I need to throw the mixture out???? I did not put any spices in the mixture.[p]ChefRD's Hot Wings
Ingredients:
• ½ Cup Milk
• 1 egg
• ½ Cup flour
• ½ Cup corn meal
• ½ tsp cayenne pepper
• ½ tsp white pepper
• ½ tsp black pepper
• 1 tsp garlic powder
• 1 tsp onion powder
• Chicken Wings [p]
Preparation Directions:
• Prepare the milk/egg wash
• Mix all the dry ingredients
• Dredge the wings thru the wash, and then roll in the dry spices.
• Let the wings rest in the refrigerator for 30~45 minutes for the coating to set.[p]
Cooking Directions:
• Cook over direct heat for about 45 minutes at 250 degrees turning about every 10 minutes to prevent burning. After 25 minutes baste wings with Louisiana hot sauce/butter whenever you turn them over.[p]
Special Instructions:
• Use 1 or 2 chunks of Hickory for a smokey flavor and cook until the juices are clear. [p][p]
Thanks for any help,
maybe I better look for a wife. LOL[p]New Bob

New Bob,[p]Whisk the egg and milk together in a bowl and set aside.[p]Mix the rest of the ingredients on the list, minus the wings, in a bowl.[p]Dip one wing at a time in the egg/milk wash, let the excess drip off for a sec and then roll the wing in the flour/cornmeal mix until the dry ingredients completely cover the wing, shake off the excess (a thin coating is all you will need) and lay on a cookie sheet. Repeat until no wings are left.
Put in the fridge uncovered for 30 minutes.[p]These are really good. I let them cook a little longer than the recipe calls for..... direct around 270 on a raised grill for about an hour and half.[p]Hey, are you sure you want another wife? :~)

    nikkig,
You're right, but I got up and went to the store, at least I can return the amount borrowed. LOL Hey, if you can't laugh at yourself and mistakes (meaning me) then I have a problem. This is a learning cook and I will be the better for my mistake. ÜÜÜ[p]Regards,

    New Bob,
Come to think of it, you probly could have turned your egg/flour/cornmeal concoction into some sort of cornbread or corndog batter and not wasted it.[p]~nikki

  • New Bob,I did the same thing last week on this recipe. Understood the directions, then the brain went to sleep and dumped the dry stuff in the egg mix. I tried to coat the wings with the resulting gook, about 2/3 of the gook stuck and stayed on. They were still great, even done wrong!
