Yesterday, I decided to do a little dutch oven egging...[p]I modified a recipe given to me by a friend for Stuffed Cabbage Rolls and adapted it for the egg. Turned out GREAT! Don't ever be afraid to try to convert recipes for your regular oven to the BGE! It's pretty easy to do and the flavor is soooooo much better you'll find the regular oven gets less and less use...LOL![p]Cabbage is a hit or miss item, so I know it's not for everyone, but if you'd like the recipe, just shout out....[p]stuffed-cabbage.jpg[p]Enjoy,

  • QBabe, Wow, those look good! How did you do them?

  • QBabe,
looks great, and i agree with you. .. my motto has become, 'if was cooked in the oven, or in a pot on the stove, then it now goes in the egg'. .. except for baking some potatoes when i'm lazy, i haven't 'cooked' in the oven in 6 months since i got my egg. . .

tn slagamater,[p]Dutch Oven Stuffed Cabbage Rolls[p]For the rolls:
    8 loose cabbage leaves
    3/4 lb lean ground beef
    1 egg
1 cup Minute Rice (or leftover cooked rice)
    1 onion, chopped
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp Cowlick rub[p]For the sauce:
1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)
    1-2 slices bacon, chopped fine
    1 small onion, chopped fine
    1 clove garlic
    1-2 tsp Worchestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste[p]Prepare cooker for indirect cook. Dome temp should be 325° to 350°.[p]Boil a pot of water. Soak cabbage leaves in boiling water (don't leave it on high heat though, or the leaves can tear). Saute 1 chopped onion in a little olive oil until tender. Remove from heat and set aside to cool. Mix ground beef, egg, rice, salt, pepper, rub, and cooked onion together. Form into 8 balls. Roll each ball inside a cabbage leaf and secure with a toothpick. Place cabbage bundles into dutch oven in layers and set aside. Meanwhile, prepare sauce. First, saute chopped bacon until cooked but not overly crispy. Add chopped onion and cook until tender, about 2-3 minutes. Add garlic and toss together for about a minute. Mix with tomato sauce and worchestershire. Pour over cabbage rolls to cover. Add a little water if necessary so all the rolls are getting sauced. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.[p]Cook for 60 - 90 minutes until done. I used a plate setter with the feet down and just put the dutch oven on top with a couple of firebrick pieces between the pot and the setter (like others have used kiln posts)...it's just a way to get a little airspace between the cast iron pot and the setter.[p]Hope you like them!
