Why is This Board More Active Than Others?

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I'm in the market for a ceramic cooker. I'm monitoring the message boards of the primary competitors. Why is this one so much more active than the others? Are there that many more BGE owners? Just curious.

Manny,[p]I am not sure if there are many more of the BGE owners, but we do tend to enjoy each others post and recipes alot here. Almost everyone is very friendly and helpfull which makes for a good atmosphere on the forum.[p]That and we are finatics about our ceramic cookers :-)

    Manny,
I've never seen any sales figures, but BGE has been around for a while and there have been a lot of great people with great cooking skills hang out here and I think that draws more readers. Hard to say. I'd have to think that BGE has the largest number of dealers. K's can only be bought over the web/phone for the most part. P's have some dealers but not as many. GD is only available over the web it seems. Whatever, forum participation is probably not the best gauge of which cooker you should buy. You probably ought to visit all the forums and ask questions about what you think is important to you. Good luck, whatever you choose. For the most part, you'll be happy whatever you decide.[p]TNW

    Manny,
Welcome to the egg room. Coming here is like going to your friendly neighborhood bar, good people, lots of information and as long as were respectful of each other, very forgiving.[p]Typo's are overlooked, have a toot too many and most over look that also. Lots of people here with more then one brand of cooker including myself. Stay around no matter what cooker you get, lots to learn here.[p]Regards,
    New Bob

  • Manny,[p]This is a very user friendly forum. The option to view posts in reverse chronological order (Last 25 posts) as well as the standard thread view is a great tool. Plus, it autorefreshes ervery 2 minutes. You can also select background music to listen to. This gives you the option to leave the forum on the screen while you are doing other things, and just look at the screen when you walk by to see if there are any new posts on topics of interest.

Manny,[p]Although I am a fanatic Egger, I think that the activity on this board might be explained (at least in part) by its user-friendly design. I know that's sort of a dull explanation, but I think it may be right. I participate in a few other forums (dealing with surfing and voice-recognition software and financial law), and this forum is just a lot easier to navigate than the others.[p]

    Manny,
For me, it's a way of life, and the forum has a life of it's own.

    Manny,
I'm don't own an egg. I have another brand of ceramic cooker. I visit this site almost daily for the cooking info, news, and humor. Eggheads are great people.

Manny, i believe that this shows a vote of confidence in the BGE and is the most popular SMOKER. If i were to buy a new car, i wouldn't buy a car that very few people own -
If a company sells many units, it makes alot of money and able to give their clients better service by Innovations, replacement parts & support. A company that has few supporters may not be around for too long (of course a new company has to build a customer base first) I prefer to go with the true & tested products, and BGE falls in that category: The company will stand behind you in every way, and be friendly. This friendliness spills over to our BUSY website (EGGHEADS are excited to share their accomplishments - some may have never cooked before - listen to them now (they even enjoy to go to the grocery store)
Good luck with your choice of ceramic smoker.

  • Manny,
I just must add my nickel’s worth on this topic. While I’ve read and agree with most of the posts here, so far, I’d say to pay particular attention to The Naked Whiz answer, as I feel his is the best answer to your question so far. Most people will buy what is most conveniently located to them and/or what they see advertised the most. Since I live in the Atlanta area, I had an easy choice of choosing between the BGE or the other brand. I chose the other brand. The forums had nothing to do with my decision since I had never had visited any BBQ forums prior to my purchase. I’ve since been happy with my purchase as I’m sure all those who have purchased the BGE product are also just as happy with their selection. Also, I give Rick a big two thumbs~up on his explanation... BGE owners are the “fanatics” of the ceramic bunch! You don’t have to be a fanatic to buy a ceramic cooker, but it will happen to almost everyone in time. Your neighbors will certainly think you’re a fanatic after a few all night cooks and especially during your coldest winter month cookouts! Just buy a ceramic cooker of your choice and start enjoying the good eats you get from it year round! [p]P.S. personally I feel most BBQ forums have something worthwhile to offer. I always look forward to StumpBaby’s posts here and he doesn’t post anywhere else but here at the BGE forum.

Another reason this forum is so active is because it is moderated very well. Offensive posts are removed quickly and those that don't adhere to the rules are nixed as well. Also, the core group of posters here are a great bunch of folks. Anyone who regularly breaks the rules or keeps posting crap will quickly find that they get no responses or are asked to leave. The Green Room is indeed a fine place to be..........[p]Jim

Manny, I believe that a part of the reason is the design of the forum. It is just like being at a party and having various discussions with a number of people. Some of the other sites that categorize posts make it seem like you are not really talking with people; it is more like looking things up from a reference database.
