The other day I was making some french fries for the grand kids. I got to thinking some onion rings would be good.

Never breading anything before and not knowing what the heck I was doing. I got some egg whites and flower.

I put some salt and pepper in the flower and was about to put the onions in the egg white. I reach over and grabbed the Dizzy Dust and put a pretty heavy dose into the flower.

I put the onions in the egg white and into the Dizzy Flour and into the cooker.

Those were the best tasting onion rings I have ever had.

Thanks DP Crew it's not BBQ'n but it sure was good eat'n.

Now I need to learn how to bread onion rings and buy more Dizzy Dust.

GG

I need to try that. The other night I was watching Alton Brown dong popcorn, I think I will give it a try.

If you want really crunchy onin rings, I dip in a tempurs batter and then in panko crumbs, you could put the DP in the tempura or coat the onion itself.Doing some rings for the kids for dinneralong with burgers.Have a great day.

That sounds really good GG. Especially with the sweet onions that are out right now. How did you cook them? Do you have a deep fryer?

The g. kids were coming over and thought I might try making some french fries.

I thought I had a fry daddy somewhere and cleaning out a closet I found my GE gallon size fryer. Surprised me I had it.

Anyway, made the fires & onion rings. Mixed up some ketchup and mayonnaise and a second batch of ketchup, mayonnaise and bbq sauce. G. Kids thought they died and went to heaven. I waan't complaining a bit either.

I am going to pick up some veggies and bread them. I need to do some searching on breading so I can do a better job. Looking forward to some mushrooms.

Try dipping the onions in buttermilk and then the seasoned flour. I do this all the time with onions and pickles and they turn out crispy.

GG...I can give you all sorts of ways to bread stuff, but first, I am going to make a suggestion. Go to the flour/cornmeal section of your grocery store, and look to see if there are any breader products by House Autrey, or even Better....Golden Dipt. Golden dipt (by McCormick) makes a pretty good tempura, and an even better beer batter. Both work great for veggies and onions (and fish). If you can't find the boxed mixes, I will be glad to help you with the rest. (FWIW....If you want to do a quick batter like you did the last time, use whole egg. The yolk provides richness and binding to the wash that whites simply can not provide). Good luck! (Got my mouth watering for some fried zucchini and shrooms!) :woohoo:  And, absolutely NO reason you can't kick those batters up a notch with DP!!
