giving in

Well as you know the debate in our house is on as to whether we need a BGE or not. My husband's birthday is coming up in two weeks and he is convinved that I will give in and get him one by then. In fact, he downloaded the plans off of the internet to build the cart and has it built already sitting on our deck. He is a manager of a tile wharehouse and he had a customer make him a green and black granite top for the thing. I asked him what it was and he said it was the cart for his BGE. When I reminded him that he did not have one he said "I know, but if I build it, it will come". We'll see if his EGG OF DREAMS comes true.

    tammie,
My wife had to convince me to get an Egg, and when she had me convinced then she decided she wanted me to have a big gas grill instead. So, I had to convince her to get me the Egg for Father's Day. (Thanks to George Bush's tax refund two years ago.) So, I say give in, let it come. You won't regret it for a number of reasons.[p]TNW

tammie,[p]DO IT! I was in the same situation. Mr. Hyde had always had his grills, and the latest one was always going the be the best one ever. One day, we were shopping for patio furniture and he saw this egg shaped ceramic cooker and was intrigued. While I was busily picking out fabrics and colors for my furniture, he sat down and read all about the amazing abilities of smoking with ceramics. He begged and I relented (for a price...he had to get me MORE furniture, LOL!).[p]The first cook was chicken, which was the best I'd ever had. I was captivated, and lo and behold, he has pretty much lost his original cooker (and the two I've bought since) to me! They're all mine! Anything you can do in an oven, you can do on an egg. Anything you can do in a dutch oven, you can do on an egg. You can do pizza, garlic bread, meatloaf, stews, soups, appetizers, low and slow pulled pork, brisket, ribs, hot and fast steaks, fish,....you name it, it can be done...![p]We cook on ours at least 4-5 times per week, especially every Friday, Sat, and Sun, and often with multiple cooks throughout the weekend days so we can stock the fridge for quick meals through the week. [p]Here's a pic of a sirloin tip roast I did this past weekend to slice and freeze for sandwiches......[p]sirloin-tip-roast.jpg[p]roast-beef-slices.jpg[p]Get the Egg! I PROMISE you won't regret it....! Only thing I can't promise is that it'll be the last grill he'll ever buy, since like me, he may want to get different sized eggs for different purposes (our small egg is perfect for camping). 'Course he may end up like Mr. Hyde and have his cookers taken over by the lady of the house, LOL![p]QBabe
    :~)

  • tammie,[p]Go ahead and do it!!! I promise you that you won't regret it. My situation was a little different. I bought my egg after winning a sales contest at work, then I sold it to my wife with the first few meals. And remember, you'll always have plenty of tips, advice and friends here on the forum.
    Welcome to the family.

  • tammie,
What is it about wives and the BGE? I went through a year and a half of the same misery (always trying to be politically correct, thoughtful about the budget, catering to her needs and wants) to no avail. I had literature all over the house, files full of downloads from this site, the BGE recipe collection, etc. Chrisrmas came and went. My birthday passed with nary a bite. Finally, I just went out and bought one, built a table, and installed it on the deck. That was 6 months ago, and the fallout continues. Where did I go wrong?

  • countrydoc,[p]
From all that I have heard we will be getting a BGE and loving it. There will be no fallout here once the best chicken on the planet is on my plate. I hope it measures up. Tell your wife I know how she feels, but life is short and wonderful food makes all things better.

  • tammie,[p]Soooo, What’s the problem???? [p]Just take his credit card and buy the BGE!!! [p]He will be doing all the cooking and you’ll be eating [p]“hi-on-the-hog” from now on!

    countrydoc,
"What is it about wives and the BGE?" This wife is the one who insisted about having one at our house. I do all the cooking on it and I am the only one allowed to use it. Not all wives dislike it. The price sometimes scare some of the wives especially when there are several other must have items just sitting around gathering dust or they have become the work of the wives. We see things a little differently that some of the husbands out there. The other thing some wives have problems with is the fact the husband is playing with fire literally. In an answer to the fact you left literature all over the house and gave several hints: How do you respond to her hints about presents? Where did you leave the literature? "All over the house" at my house means I thought it was more junk to pick up and throw away.
