My husband is determined to get a big green egg. He says that I will not be disappointed, however, I feel that this will be one more to add to the four grills/smokers he already owns. Please give me the evidence I need that this is the best and last grill we will ever buy. Thanks.

  • tammie, I have a high end stainless gas grill which has cob webs all over it since I got my egg. I have since added a small BGE. This is a no-brainer IMO.

  • tammie,[p]Depends, he may have to get a mini, small, medium and large.[p]Kurt
  • The Other Dave,
So what do you recommend our first meal should be?

    <p />tammie,
Depending on YOUR likes. I would keep it simple with ribs (he needs a placesetter) or beer butt chicken which can be cooked direct.[p]CWM

  • Kurt,
Will we be happy with just a medium? We have a Good One smoker for larger crowds. The people we have talked to say that a medium would be fine, but we just want to make the right decision.

  • tammie, It's WIDE open. Our oven is completely unused anymore. Whatever you can cook in an oven, dutch oven, grill, etc., is available. To experience the egg at its finest, I recommend a pork picnic low and slow. The flavor and texture are unbelievable! Grilled tuna with asparagus are another favorite and shows the versitality of the egg.

  • tammie, Oh, did I mention that since I got my BGE, my wife rarely cooks? ;)

    tammie,
I have a medium and wish I had the large. You can always not use all the space on the grill, but if you get too small a grill, you may wish you had the extra space.[p]As for the other grills you own, they will make real nice lawn ornaments/grill tool keepers. I thought I had purchased my last grill... until a friend cracked the dome on his medium (oops) and was going to throw it away. That is how I ended up with a medium.[p]If/when I buy another grill, it will be a large.

  • tammie, just go ahead and leave him now. He's a lost cause if he has 4-5 grills. You deserve better. Post your picture here and we'll find you a replacement. :)

    tammie,
I suppose I could be more sympathetic. At one time there were 5 cookers in my back yard, two Eggs among them. It wasn't easy getting rid of the excess: while I finally managed to sell the offset, I ended up having to give away the gas grill and bullet smoker. I'm down to two Eggs and the only question is which to use.[p]Ken

  • BlueSmoke,
What sizes do you have? We are thinking the medium will be just fine but hope we won't wish we went with the large.

tammie,[p]I have a large and a small. The large is great for multiple butts, whole briskets, several racks of ribs, 4 dozen hot wings - anything that takes lots of space. The small gets more use: single butts, 2 or 3 racks, plus grilling. Others might not agree, but for my style and tastes this is the best way to go. If God came down and forced me to give up one, I'd give up the small (and cry rivers of tears).[p]Ken

tammie,[p]Get a large FIRST. You will have no regrets. And I bet it won't be your last![p]Jim

    tammie,
You probably will wish you had gotten the large..go ahead and get it now to save lots of wondering. Then for your birthday, hubby can get you the small![p]~nikki

tammie,[p]Spatchcocked Chicken...seasoned simply with only Tony Chachare's Creole seasoning. Cooked direct on a raised grid (when you buy the egg, go ahead and get a second grid, it will expand the options of what you can do) at 350° for an hour.[p]spatchcock-chick.jpg[p]The Naked Whiz has a great website. Lots of good information there! Look in his recipes section for a step-by-step description of how do prep the chicken. At Sam's Club, their whole chickens come in a 2-pack so I'll often do both and then either foodsave the pieces for quick meals, or debone and use for chicken salad, pasta, etc.[p]It's an easy and yummy first meal![p]Good luck,
