Blew a Spud

Just tryin to break in the new table and I blow a spud. I was standing by with my dog Java and "Booof" we both looked at each other and then at the Egg. My little guy Gavin doesn't have a problem with an over rotated spud. Also got to use the new Thermopen :woohoo: :woohoo:
Seared the meat on the small at 550* and then threw it on with the spuds at 350*. Pulled the Pork off at 140* and it got to 142-144 at plate time. Butt Rub on the Pork and Dizzy Dust on the Potato.

Interesting way to make mashed potatoes.

Very nice effort. That's why you should poke holes all around the skin, when you bake taters.
-
And did you use a fork to poke holes around the spud before putting it on??
-
Did you poke the potato before hand? I have always made fun of my wife for worrying about this. Been cooking taters my whole life and never had that happen nor even heard first hand that it did.
Of course, she loved your picture as vindication. In recent years I have poked mine with a fork before cooking. However, I haven't always done that. Guess I will continue poking.

I only do that for microwaved taters....Well I used to only do that. Now I will all the time :pinch:
-
Me too.

That's funny, I've read and heard about this happening especially in a microwave. The clean up did look too bad, instant mashed spuds.

It looks like you can't handle that table. I really better come pick it up tomorrow.
I have to wonder...how loud was your BOOF? When my CI grill crack, it really startled me. -
All that flavor wanted out, looks like a great cook Adam.

It ALL came out. Pretty amazing, really.

At least somethings making me laugh at 3:00 am getting ready for work! Never seen a tator blow on an Egg b4!
-
It could have been worse. I had it happen in the oven once. just once. I am a poker now. it was a mess to clean up.

I have never poked my spuds and have always been a bah humbug towards all those potato pokers.
I don't dare show my wife the photo or I will never live this down. My wife does poke when I am not looking or when I won't be cooking the spuds myself.
I have always heard the poking makes for a dryer spud.
I guess until I get my own potato popper I am still in the don't poke camp - unless my wife gets hold of the spuds first.

100% of the damn thing blew out. Shooot
