What Meat Thermometer

edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
Hi,
I'm new. What's a reliable and accurate meat thermometer to use. I checked the archives and did not see too much on it. I'm particularly interested in the Poldar but concerned about the effect the heat will have on the cord.
Thanks
Jerry

Jerry,[p]The ones that I have seen on this site with the cord wrap the cord in aluminum foil for protection. I don't use one of those types, so I can't tell you much about it. I use a Thermapen.[p] Dave

    Jerry,
I am perfectly happy with my elcheapo (paid less than $10) Healthy Measures thermometer. I've used it for over a year now with no problems. Whatever brand you decide to get, make sure you protect the cable with foil. I use a double layer just for added protection. If you are wanting a good instant read, check out the Thermapen.[p]~nikki

I had a polder dual reading probe thermometer. It tells you NOT to use it in a smoker or grill (I read this after it broke). After a recent low and slow I checked the reading in boiling water and it was reading 278 degrees. This would explain why my brisket was reading 190 and it wasn't done. I will be switching to a Thermapen and Maverick combo soon.
