WessB just posted about a foodsaver. I was in Costco Sunday and saw them.
Is one type better than others, brand, etc.
Will the amount spent make much differance?
Do they do that much better job than bagging?
Salado TX & 30A  FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

Just make sure you get one with a built in bag cutter. -RP

Check out this site. He has some good videos on vacuum sealing. This is the basically the same unit that Cabela's sells. I found his bags and rolls to be a good price and very good quality. My Foodsaver finally crapped out after eight years, and I bought the 2100. Probably not worth the difference in price, but it is a great piece of equipment that can be passed down to my grandkids. Works great to reseal chips and crackers, also.

I picked one up a few months ago.

I vacuum seal anything I think I may keep for more than a month. Its really the best way to prevent freezer burn.

Right now, I have 60 new york strips, and 18 racks of baby backs in my freezer awaiting those hot days on the deck or at the lake!

Bring on summer! I'm ready! :woohoo:

    Mickey,

They are a must for large cooks and freezing. I have the proffessional 3 and it has been great. I would add to what Randy said, make sure you get one that will work with the vacuum marinade containers.

  • My advice is go for the one that Costco carries. Costco's guarantee makes it easy to return if it dies quickly or you don't like it.

I bought the Food Saver model that Costco carried 3 or 4 years ago. It still works great. I find items in the far back of my freezer that I did over a year ago. Open them up and the meat is as good as the day I put it in.

I also use it when I go camping to seal up things that are going to go in coolers. I never worry about 'leakage' into my ice. Put them in frozen and they act as an added ice pack.

    Good luck.

There are better "foodsaver" models than Costco carries...but it really is just the addition of extra features or canisters...the "Pro" models offer 1 touch sealing and a bag cutter as Randy mentioned also more repeated seals in one session...you don't necessarily NEED more than what costco offers, but you may want to shop for the extra features the other models offer...I also have been considering a commercial sealer..BUT...the one I want is $1600 so it's been put on hold for a while...

It's damn near impossible to beat costco's price on the 5 or 6 roll bag pack..highly recommend getting the bags there even if you don't get the sealer from them..
