Do you use a grill mat on your wood deck?

I know all the reasons to use one, but I haven't found one I like yet. What do you use?

Boatman,
After having a fire that started on the deck I would definitely use one. My new deck will be stamped concrete for that very reason. They sell them in the big box stores, up here, anyway.

Hi Boatman,
I get a bunch of ceramic tiles and push them close together. works great. I buy a few extra in case they break. -
I'm with you, but I haven't. OTOH my main objection is appearance and how they discolor the deck. I'm thinking of buying one, and cutting it in half so when not in use I could store it behind my cart or even under the cart. Anybody ever cut one?Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

Before I got my table, I used a mat from Lowe's. It was thin and was coated with a brownish sprayed on concrete. Easy to move around. It seemed to do the job of catching ashes and protecting the deck.
When I got my table, I removed the mat and it was pretty dirty on the deck. Luckily my deck is made of Azek which cleans very easily.

What do you have in mind for a 'new one'.
I am beefing up a trailer hitch and am going on the road for a snazzy porch to bring home.

Good luck Kent, this one is firmly planted in concrete  :P -
Why do you think I am always asking for pictures. I am planning this trip out real carefully.

When Barbques Galore went out of business I bought one but for years before that I took a chance. Now I don't think I would go back to not using one. My deck is huge and if it caught fire I am sure my home would go with it.

Seriously get 4 (or 6) of those 2'x 2' ceramic floor tiles at your home improvement store and put them close together and roll your egg right up onto them... All sorts of nice tile designs, they look really nice.

If it hasn’t rained or is very hot and dry, I take the water hose and spray down the deck real well around my eggs. I only worry about sparks etc. while lighting but the danger is always there. I had a few stray sparks before the day of the stainless screen but now it is much better and safer. Good luck cooking on your wooden deck. PopsicleWillis Tx.
