New 3Tier Racks for the Large

The new chrome-plated 3Tier racks are now available for the Large EGG. The top two levels rotate and are adjustable to multiple levels http://www.biggreenegg.com/whatsnew.html

Has anyone used the new 3Tier Racks one the large egg yet?

I bought the 3TIER at time of BGE (Large). On-line it says no need for 2" fire ring, in accessory book that came with egg it says I need 2" fire ring.
I was wondering if the only thing I need to use 3TIER is platter or is it necessary to also have 2" fire ring?
