Lid problem

I just had a new gasket installed and have an odd issue... 1st happened when I noticed the other gasket needed to be replaced but resurfaced this weekend even w/ replacement gasket: When I run the egg for an extended period at a low temp, all is fine, but if I pump the heat up over 350-400, the lid doesn't align well after I open it and try to shut it again. I would compare it to a person w/ a broken jaw trying to close their mouth... a bit askew... I can usually get it into place but this shouldn't be happening. When the dealer replaced the gasket, he also tightened all the bolts because i told him about alignment problem but as I said it resurfaced.... anyone else had this problem?

I had to re-align my lid, but I didn't have it go back.

Are you sure the bolts are tight enough? You cannot over tighten them - the bolts SHOULD actually bend.

Check the 8 bolts that secure the bands to the hinge assembly......

The guy who came out to replace gasket was made aware of the problem and said he tightened all the bolts. Not sure why the higher the temperature the more likely to have the alignment problem. When it soold down, there is less of a problem.

Heat is causing the steel bands and bolts to expand and therefore become loose. When it cools down again the bands and bolts contract making them tighter. I would go thru the assembly procedure again following the instructions exactly, making sure the top and bottom are properly aligned and tighten the bolts per the instructions.

    Good luck

It may cost you $0.50 or $0.75 to get the alignment correct...

I read a while back that to get the cooker from having an under/overbite, that one needed to put two or three quarters between the bowl and the dome BEFORE cranking down on the nuts and bolts. That seemed to do the trick for me a while back due to some smoke leaking out. And it only cost me $0.50 :)

    Hope that helps you out!
