My experience has been smoking @ 225 degrees. How long can I expect the initial load of charcoal to last? I, too, am having trouble aligning the cap/lid. I read some hints as how to correct this problem. Seems like "tikering" with a system that should be fool proof.

Wayne Moorhead,[p]I am not sure what you maen about aligning the top and bottom. You really don't need to as long as they touch and seal air from entering all the way around. A full firebox of lump will last 19-20 hrs if you cook at 225°. [p]Tim
  • Tim M,
The lid should set on the base evenly. After tightening the 2 bands the lid is one half inch off.[p]Also, what is a diffuser & flashbacks?[p]Have you tried Maple Leaf, Canadian charcoal?[p]Wayne[p]

    Wayne Moorhead,
I'm not quite sure what a diffuser is, never heard of that for a BGE. It could possibly be meant as something to diffuse the heat to do indirect cooks. That could be a platesetter, firebricks, a drip pan, or simply just a sheet of foil. As for flshbacks, check out Naked Whiz's site for all the info and a movie.[p]~nikki

Wayne Moorhead,[p]No, the lid doesn't need to be on evenly. You may want it to be, but it doesn't perform any worse if it is or isn't. You may want to believe it does, but it doesn't - as long as it has no air gaps to suck air it will work fine. If it seals all the way around - it's good as it gets! If there are air gaps, then you have problems.[p]No - haven't tried any Canadian lump. None around here.[p]A diffuser - no idea. I have never heard that term used on ceramic cookers in the 5+ years I have been around here.[p]Flashback is when you open the dome and the smoke inside bursts into flames very suddenly. Just remember to open the chimney top and the vent prior to opening the dome.[p]
