Judy, thanks so much for the early Christmas present. Even plain this rice has so much flavor for white rice. I'm a believer in this stuff. Did some Very Very Teriyaki on the broccoli. A little competing with the popcorn rice, but this was the third meal this week with the new rice. I see many more meals with popcorn rice as a side!

I got a gift certificate to KC Steaks. The kabobs are beef tenderloin scraps. Used them for Kung Pao Beef earlier in the week.

Tenderloin for Kung Pao...that had to be LIGHT OUT Gunnar! My favorite chinese dish by a mile...

BTW - been looking for that Polish Wedding Sausage you made at TX Eggfest..and there seems to be a Mason-Dixon line of sorts that runs between Blanco, over to New Braunfels for anyone who carries the stuff...HEB's included. Damn shame, that was KILLER stuff and GOOD times!

Not sure where your popcorn rice is from, but have been buying from these folks since the late '80's. Great aroma.

I have not heard of popcorn rice. Do you cook it any differently than long grain rice???

No, but it makes the kitchen think you are doing popcorn. Great by itself with butter IMHO.

Nice cook, B-Man! I'll have to look up popcorn rice to see where to get some here in the Austin area.

Barry, I am so glad you like it. It's something you have to taste to understand how good it is (kinda like the bacon wrapped watermelon rind). By the way, I wanted to thank you for helping me out in Austin. Not only for serving the food but I heard you telling people about how the rinds and meatballs were cooked. Thank you so much. Look forward to seeing you at the next fest.

Yea, but I hear that you dry it out in the cooking process so you have to add rum flavored butter.

It was a great time. I have 3 HEB's around me and the products very in this short distance. Every time we order from KC we get 4 ~ 1 lb packages of tenderloin trimmings for $30. At $7.50 a pound just looking for new uses. Looking forward to next year.

My pleasure to help and many thanks again for the rice. I'm converted for sure. Doing some easy cooks and walking around sure made for a quick day.

You may have to get it online. You won't believe how aromatic it smells while cooking. It's not like any rice I've had before.

I have a good idea - next year I'll do the easy cooks and help you! Something tells me you are a natural at these eggfests. You fit right in from the start. Now you will be addicted like the rest of us and start looking for the next fest.

I wonder if that rice comes from southeast texas. I run the rice fields when heading to Port Arthur to visit the inlaws. t

I've known all along that it came from Louisiana but there's only a fine line between Louisiana rice country and Texas rice country.

Here's what I happened on while looking it up:

Popcorn rice has a wealthy, nutty savor and a popcorn-like perfume. This fragrant rice comes from Louisiana and is a basmati hybrid. Popcorn rice is accessible in white and brown organic forms. White rice sets off food savors more specifically, at the same time as brown rice has higher fiber content and takes longer to cook. This rice is long grain rice that has an aromatic corn or nut like fragrance and taste. The savor and perfume comes from a naturally stirring compound found in all rice as well as corn and nuts. Popcorn Rice is with ought cholesterol, sodium free, and has no more than a trace of fat. A half cup portion is something like 80 calories. The rice's texture is fluffy and has a firm consistency. The grains stay separate and fluffy after cooking, so this is the best choice if you want to serve rice as a side dish, or as a bed for sauces. It can be cooked entire and served with stir-fries, sauces, and curries, or made into flour, wine, cakes, vinegar, milk, flakes, noodles, paper, and tea. Popcorn rice it’s the most excellent option for rice pudding and molded salads.

It definitely has a unique flavor that makes you want more as soon as you start to eat it.
