Jay,

I have a questions about your kitchen - egg platform in particular.

They are framing my cabinets today and I was going to have an open platform, similar to yours, with the exception of a back wall (cabinet height). It will have a large on the right and a small on the left.

It looks from the pictures that your cabinets are on coasters. I have a copy of your design sketch that you posted a while back and it shows 16" from floor to bottom on the egg platform. Does that include the coasters (space) under the cabinets?

My cabinets, of course, will be 36" in height and I was trying to know how high the platform needs to be from the floor to get the egg rim at the proper height. I plan to use a paver plus the 3 green feet under the egg, which I think will add a total of 3 inches. I also know the small is 5 inches shorter that the large and will make that platform higher.

Thanks for any help you can give. I wish I had the space to make a kitchen like yours! :woohoo:

    Morning Clark:

The cabinets are not on coasters, but the legs supplied by the cabinet maker. The 16" that is listed on the sketch is from the floor (would include the space for the cabinet legs) to the top of the platform. On the platform I have one layer of paving stones and the Egg feet. I think the stones I used are only 1.5" thick so with feet, that is a total of just over 2". I am very comfortable with the final height of the Egg opening which I would guess to be about 37" or 38" (I don't recall the exact measurement, but I can check this evening when I get home).

Hope this helps (and isn't too confusing)! Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. Glad I could help!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Thanks. VERY helpful !

Yeah, it looks like the rims are barely above the counter level.

BTW, have you checked under your pavers to see if they are transmitting any heat to the wood? I've seen pics of others who have have scorched tables, etc. from the heat. I think the pavers, as well as the air space from the feet should prevent that from happening. That 's why I am considering a wood floor to the platform instead of granite or tile (cost savings).

    Thanks again, Jay.

I haven't checked yet (though I probably should). My cabinets are not made of wood though. They are a marine grade polymer made by a Tampa company called Werever (WEREVER WEBSITE. It is my understanding that the material won't "burn", but would possibly melt when it gets very hot. I haven't noticed any "sagging" or "warpping" of the drawers below the Eggs, so I don't think there is much heat being transferred.

    Have a GREAT day!
