Just got back last night from a long weekend camp down on Cumberland. What a beautiful place. Anybody within a few hours ought to go check it out! Wild horses, turkey, deer, racoons, armadillos, roam in and out of camp areas and stroll down beaches.... pretty cool

    Sirry Chris, couldn't resist. :ermm:
  • I would love to have done the same thing. Cumberland Island has to be one of the coolest places I have been.

You guessed it! Turkey 1 is Zac (9) and turkey 2 is Trent (6) They had a blast.. will go again for 3-4 nights... A lot of work getting stuff to and from camp, so more days will be nice.

  • A great place to camp. Our troop usually goes for a week in the spring. Even better early in the year before the bugs hatch out. Also a great place to look for sharks teeth.

Wow, what a beautiful place. All the wildlife, that's unbelievable. I'm not within a few hours but it would be worth the trip. How far is it from Atlanta?
  • Only access is by boat. There is a ferry twice a day that leaves out of St. Marys GA. Day trips are no problem, just buy a ferry ticket and DO NOT miss the return in the afternoon. Overnight stays require advance registration and permits. Approx. 5 hours from Atl.

Kim, Greyfield Inn is beautiful, what a place!!
Now that's my kind of lodging. A little pricey but there is so much included the price. I already know which room I want to stay in. :) I imagine you have to book way ahead. I'm thinking of tying it in with Eggtoberfest. Is there a certain time of the year that would be better? Thanks for the info. You are just a wealth of information Kim!!

If you guy's like our area down here so much I would highly recommend you try to book a stay on Little St.Simons Island...

Both are great places to get away from the real world...

I have spent many days on both islands,, although Cumberland is a bigger island & a National Wildlife Refuge you do have to rough it a bit more.. On Little St.Simons there are a little better accommodations private cabins you can rent if you have wife & kids that don't like to ruff it as bad!!!

There are only 3 other islands between the two of them
(Little Cumberland , Jekyll Island & St.Simons Island)..Jekyll & St.Simons are our tourist trap islands plenty of everything on them.... the others are very secluded ,,, hope you enjoy your stay !!!! Randall

All of the islands in our area are great places... Just depends on what kind of vacation you would like to take ,,,
both Cumberland & Little St.Simons can be visited during the day while you stay on St.Simons or Jekyll Island at night..

From St Simons,,Cumberland Island is about 30 miles south on I-95 you must leave from St.Marys Ga. to catch the ferry or rent a boat on St.Simons and you be thee in about 45 minutes to an hour straight down the Intercaostal water way.. to get to Little St.Simons you leave off the north end of St.Simons at Hampton Point Marina about a 15 minute boat ride....

Great wild life & on both islands .. Let me know if I can help you with anything.... Randall....
