XL fire ring?

I recently purchased a brand new xl egg. It seems to be some sort of bastardized egg. It came with the new style handle and spring set up, but with the old firebox and fire ring. I haven't bought any accessories yet and wonder would I be better off to get a new style fir box so that I could use the new plate setter and such?

It is not a bastard. The new hinge and handle have been out for some time now even before the re-design. It would be an older model that you have. I have the same one. Not to worry, just when you get a plate setter the legs are only 1 or 2 inches long not like the new plate setter which has longer legs. It will work just fine it is just the older model. The new model just came out recently and a lot of dealers still have the older models in stock.
