Bread Bowl Pasta

fishlessman posted a link yesterday for a Bread Bowl Pasta. LINKY Call me crazy, but it looked good to me. What's not to like? Fresh bread, pasta, cheese, tomato sauce, and sausage. All in one. So I gave it a whirl. Used Zippylip's dough and the author's sauce (pretty much the same as I make). The instuctions called for 1/4 of a pizza dough. His recipe used 4 cups of flour plus a cup of starter mix. I wasn't going to make the sour dough, so I figured that a half of Zippy's dough would be about the same size if not bigger. I could have made the whole batch into a bowl and still not been able to put all the sauce, pasta, and cheese into the tiny bowl this made. Ended up using only about a cup of the cooked pasta, not even half the sauce and cheese. It was filled pretty high but the crust (about an inch thick at the edge) did not rise enough to truly make a bowl out of the thing. Basically a pizza w/ pasta. Still, not bad. Sauce was great (used about 1/2 tsp of pepper flakes and 1/4 tsp black pepper for a little diavolo kick). Not sure I would make it again, but it was good for grins. The leftover sauce and pasta is in the fridge for another meal, and I got a hunk of dough to make a real pizza out of, too.
