Ijust recieved my DigiQII. Extremely excited!!!!!! Bought a large Brisket and was planning to put the meat on at 10:00 tonight but.... I did not order or it did not come with the adaptor for the Large BGE. Can I go to Lowes and look for something similar for tonight or possibly just bundle up foil and use that as a make shift adaptor until the adaptor arrives or should I just go without the DigiQII and do the brisket the old fashioned way???

That's a tough one because you are excited to use it, but the last thing you want to do is damage your fan. While I'm sure something could be fabricated, but if I were you I'd leave the brisket in the fridge and order the adapter first thing Monday morning.

I think you need the adapter to make it work. It sounds like it is a free lance cook tonight. If you get your fire going good you shouldn't have any problems. I've never had a fire go out on me. good luck to all. Done without a guru. Tom CABBrisketcook2.jpg

    Lavahead,

How bout a vaccuum hose and duct tape. Seious, I don't know but you cant use anything flammable on the base of the egg, but if you use the metal end of a vacuum hose and taped it to seal the intake and attached the guru blower on the other end it might work. Duct tape...the handyman's friend.

There's nothing wrong with using the Egg as is. Don't get me wrong, I own an older Guru for overnight cooks and jerky, but it's not essential, and not having it would certainly not make me change any plans. Pardon the pun, but I like playing with fire.

Start your fire at 9PM, by 10 it should be ready and you can put the brisket on. Stay up until midnight just to confirm your vent settings are where you want them for the pit temp you want to cook at. Get up at 3AM and check the pit temp. Just for some insurance, build yourself a wiggle rod. Use it if you need to wake up the coals. Get up at 6AM, check the pit temp and now would be a good time to stick the brisket for tenderness, and also to take it's temperature. The coals might need another wiggle by 8AM, or they might not. Then just ride it out.
    Happy Trails

whoever you ordered your guru from probably left the adapter out by mistake if they sent the viper fan. call the folks at bbqguru mon and they will ship it rite out.

Like stated above, the egg will do your cook for you without the q2.

If you are going to adapt something, keep in mind the 'O' ring on the fan is rubber. Excess heat can possibly affect it.

I wouldn't use any kind of tape unless you have high temperature tape and then the adhesive might make a mess on the egg.

The dimensions on the adapter pictured above are correct, however, there is a little metal slider that is slit vertically to hold the adapter into the upper chanel. The slider is about 1.5 or so inches wide and 1/4 to 1/2 inch tall. Very simple to fabricate.

You couold go to lowes or home depot and pick up a piece of sheet metal, they usually have pieces that are about 6" or so square. Drill a smaller hole in the center. From that center hole use a tin snip or dremel and cut some 'slots' from the center of the hole to a little larger than the fan outlet.

Bend the 'fingers' (will look like slices of pizza) out away from center of the plate enough that those fingers will slide over the outlet of the fan. Make sure you don't cut the 'O' ring. You may have to trim off the pointed end of the 'pie slices' some. Now duct tape around those 'fingers/slices' and onto the fan outlet.

Make sure you duct tape all the holes in the plate and protruding 'slices' and when you use the q2 if you have the 10 cfm fan close the air slider to about 1/3 open. Top vent of a large would be slider closed and petals almost fully closed/ 1/8 to 1/4 open.

Let us know what you decide to do and have fun with your cook and q2 if you use it.
