Anyone wrap a potato in foil and throw it right on the coals? About how long would it stay in assuming you turn it once or twice? Thanks.

Thats aggresive. Are you gonna cook over them spuds? Maybe a steak after the potatoes are done wouldn't be too troublesome.

I have done it on an open fire but never in the Egg. I would think the Egg temps are much hotter than an open fire. Worth trying just have a back up plan.

nice way to start a steak ,,, jl cavemans the meat ala trex removes and finishes on the grid. i just took it a step further and truthfully when i was a boy scout we thru taters in the coals all the time

Read about it on the BBQGuru website. A couple of questions?
Do you replace your old grate with the turbograte?
Can you use different amounts of lump with it - even all the way up to the fire ring for a lo slow cook? -
it replaces the old grate and is used just the same way. as much or as little lump as you want and all the way to the fire ring is fine.. actually that is what i do all the time ,, clean egg fill to fire ring light cook and extinguish. re light the next night and so on till i am out of lump clean and start over
