raised grid....
hey gang,[p]pardon my laziness, but i wanted to raise my grid and i am too lazy to search th archives for instructions on how to do this to find the way that i think is best. i see below one of you has done this w/ carriage bolts, washers, and nuts, but am a little confused as to where do the bolts sit and sizes for large egg. i also saw where tere were bricks inside the egg to raise the grid?[p]thanx in advance![p]regards,[p]Da_Butcher

Da_Butcher,
One way is to place fire brick on edge on a grid, and then put the second grid on the firebricks. This is fine, but I found that if I placed food so that it was over the firebrick (for example doing a spatchcock chicken, and part of the chicken was over the brick) the food didn't get done as fast as the food that wasn't over the brick. Big problem with chicken. [p]If you want to use bolts and washers, it is probably best to use stainless steel to eliminate any worries about galvanized hardware and zinc and so forth. As for dimensions, I'd have to go measure, but you probably should measure yourself. The bolts were either 5 or 5.5 inches x 5/16 inches. You could use 1/4 inch also. You may find that with the washers in place, you can't get the bolts close enough to the edge of the grid so that they will rest on the fire ring. I had to bend my bolts so that they bent outward a bit. Play around a bit, it should work out ok.[p]TNW
