Same story as Da_Butcher except I'm 37 from Boston area with five hungry kids to feed. Large BGE with all the goodies shipping this week due to arrive soon I hope. Ordered my Dizzy Pig rubs last night and got an e-mail response at about 11 PM telling me that my order was packed and ready to go. Great service! Now I just need to decide what to cook for the first time. Decisions, decisions.[p]

    Bean Town,
Load 'er up with chicken. That'll feed the whole crew. It's cheap, it seasons the grill nicely, and it works! (and it smells good when it's cooking)[p]

Bean Town,[p]You did good starting off with the Dizzy Pig Rubs. They are freshest commercial rubs out there.[p]A good starter cook might be a london broil seared and cooked to medium and sliced thin..... always a crowd pleaser.[p]Nice to have you on board!

    Welcome Bean Town,
37 and 5 kids, eh? You done been busy! Actually I think I just got started late. Come to think of it, even finished late with twin girls. Did I say I am done? heee.[p]Nothing like planning ahead. Pork chops, pork tenderloins, chicken, steaks, burgers all make great first cooks. You'll have fun playing with different rubs and techniques. As you can tell, lots of folks are here and ready to help. The only dumb questions are the ones that don't get asked. Don't be afraid to shout out....even if you are in the middle of something. Usually a response from a knowledgable body comes within minutes.[p]You'll probably have the rubs before the egg! Good luck getting started cooking! I think you should be able to get that killer Nature's Own charcoal up your way. Keep your eyes peeled! [p]Cheers!

drbbq in Beantown,[p]"me and my egg are in Malden, MA right now."[p]Does that mean that you will be going through New Jersey to get back home? There are a couple folks up there that would love to meet ya. And are you coming down through Virginia or NC on the way? You can come by and we can bond.[p]BTW, what did you name "your" Egg?[p]Tim

Bean Town,[p]Where in Boston are you? And more importantly, where do you go for your meat?
I'm in the South End, and I've yet to find a good butcher. There's a small place called "Epicurean Meat Market" on Washington St., but other than steaks, they really don't have much good meat in stock unless you call ahead (they'll pretty much get whatever you want, but you can't just pop in and get a good selection). Hopefully that'll change once I move to Brookline (coolidge corner) in September, but was curious if you knew of any place good.
If you need to find lump, Trader Joes started carrying cowboy lump for 4.49 for a 10 pound bag a few months ago. I find it to be just fine, and is easy to get. Also, there's a place called Brookline Ice and Coal that used to carry Maple Leaf and Cowboy in the 20 pound bags. I never called them on it, but they have delivery trucks, and might even deliver a large order to your door (but I don't know about that).
There's nothing like an egg--you and your kids will love it. I barbecued minimum once a week, even in this crazy winter. Just shovel a path to the egg, and you're all set.
Oh--and as far as what to cook, spatchcocked chicken on steaks T-rex style are always good suggestions--neither are that difficult and both are a big step up from what you're used to. Recipes are on the Naked Whiz's recipe page, which I'll send a link to.
