Indirect Grilling

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I'd like to smoke some ribs on my BGE, but it seems too hot, even at 200 degrees. Are there any suggestions out there to grill ribs indirectly?

    PES,
There are plenty of folks with links to their websites, TimM being one, with good directions on indirect ribs. I just did 3 racks of baby backs yesterday at 225, so if you're able to maintain 200, you're fine.
The easiest way is to use a plate setter with the feet up, a drip pan on it, then add the grill.
You should get plenty of ideas.

  • ravnhaus,[p]Are the firebricks (or platesetter) a must?
Or can I just use an inverted v-rack with a drip-pan for the indirect?
(I'm a newbie with a medium egg and no firebricks)

    Tony,
To me the firebricks are a must. I use them all the time. I rarely cook down at the standard grill level. I like to raise my grill further from the coals, even for a hot grill, steaks, ect..
I prefer to cook indirect most of the time. It gives the meat a more even heat distribution.
You can find fire brick (buy splits!) at any brick yard. Pick up six or so and you will be set for anything.
    I cook on a medium.
